Graffiti Complaints Increase in NYC

Complaints are up about 5 percent overall from last year

New York City residents are filing more graffiti complaints this year.

Complaints are up about 5 percent overall from last year, according to the New York Post.

The total is about 4,167 so far, from 3,956 last year.

From Battery Park to 59th Street in Manhattan, complaints are up about 14 percent, from 398 to 453.

NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis says taggers compete to have their graffiti seen. Painting over is a deterrent, he said.
