Girl, 3, Killed by Car While Crossing Street With Grandmother in Queens

Allison Liao was crossing Cherry Avenue in Flushing with her grandmother

A 3-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car in Queens Sunday evening as she crossed the street with her grandmother, police said.

Allison Liao and her grandmother were crossing Cherry Avenue in Flushing at about 5:30 p.m. when the child was struck by the car making a turn, officials said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Witnesses described a bloody and heartbreaking scene.

One man said he tried to give little Allison CPR as she lay lifeless in his arms.

"I took her and I cradled her head and I set her down on the concrete here and she had a bunch of blood on her mouth," said Rick Hall. "I cleaned her mouth out and started CPR."

Another witness said Allison's grandmother was in shock.

"She was carrying her granddaughter in her arms, and she was shaking and she was screaming and yelling," said Rachel Hwang.

The driver, who remained on the scene, was making a turn when he hit the girl. He appeared visibly distraught and was cooperating with detectives, authorities said.
