Gas Line Fire Erupts at Queens Construction Site

Workers at a construction site in Queens fractured a gas line Saturday and ignited a roaring fire at the location, authorities said.

A drilling rig struck a high-pressure gas line and it erupted into flames on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, fire officials said. There was no explosion.

About 40 workers were at the site at the time. One sustained a minor injury, firefighters said.

Firefighters had the 2 p.m. fire under control in less than an hour.

Con Ed turned off gas to the damaged line and reported that no other customers in the area were affected by the incident.
