At least two people have been taken to a hospital after some sort of gas explosion rocked their New Jersey apartment early Monday, according to an official familiar with the investigation.

The official with North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, which responded to the scene on 57th Street in West New York around 6 a.m., said early indications suggest the victims will survive.

There was no fire from the explosion, and damage was confined to the apartment, the official said.

Chopper 4 over the scene showed a heavy emergency presence, with four firefighters on the roof passing equipment to other emergency authorities below. At least two ladders were seen stacked against the two-story building.
