Guru Said to Be Recovering After Successful Surgery

Legendary Gang Starr MC in medically induced coma, according to Twitter

Legendary hip-hop pioneer Guru is reportedly recovering today after successful surgery following an episode this weekend -- said to be cardiac arrest -- that left him in a coma,  according to news and Twitter reports.

"#Guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love," tweeted the DJPremierBlog, which is affiliated with DJ Premier aka Primo the architect of the sparse, jazzy East Coast sound over which Guru dropped his infamously monotone and philosophical rhymes.

A later tweet from the DJPremier Blog said "Guru still in a med induced coma, he's breathing with machine help."

The 43-year-old rapper -- born Keith Elam in Boston -- should make a full recovery, sources told the rap-news website AllHipHop.com.

“Guru is alive and recovering from his surgery," a source told AllHipHop.com.  "Doctors are expecting a full recovery luckily.”

Other than that the surgery was a success, much is still not known about the condition of the rapper -- who reportedly suffered a heart attack Sunday and was taken to a New York-area hospital, according to Billboard magazine and Hot 97's Miss Info

Twitter has been abuzz with well-wishes and updates on Guru's condition as QtiptheAbstract, of the legendary Queens group "A Tribe Called Quest," tweeted that "Spoke to preemo. (Guru) in surgery still keep praying. He's still here."

EPMD's DJ Scratch asked everyone to keep the love going: "Guru's surgery was successful. Keep the positive energy & prayers going!"
