NYPD Deploys Officers to Sensitive Areas in Wake of Paris Violence

New York Police officials deployed additional units to sensitive locations around the city in the aftermath of the attacks on Paris and security will be beefed up at Sunday's football game in the Meadowlands.

Heavily armed officers, including the NYPD Operation Hercules teams, were immediately dispatched to the French Embassy, other diplomatic posts and sensitive New York landmarks.

The NYPD Counterterrorism Response Command and Critical Response Group have been dispatched to crowded areas of the city.

Local authorities said the mobilization was a precaution and there are no known threats in New York City.

"New York is always a target. The good news is that our authorities are very vigilant about looking at New York. Our Joint Terrorism Task Force has some of the best experts in the world," U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D) told NBC 4 New York.

New Jersey State Police said they will increase the number of troopers at the Giants-Patriots game at East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium. Fans were advised to use transparent bags for any items brought to the stadium.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police are also on heightened alert.

Spokesman Joe Pentangelo says there are increased patrols and checks of bags, buses, trucks and trains at agency locations.

The NYPD said that it is actively communicating with its French counterparts and with the FBI. NYPD Intelligence Bureau Detectives are conducting liaison activities to assist French police and update the NYPD on the developing situation in Paris.

Gov. Cuomo also said New York state police, the New York State Intelligence Center and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services are actively monitoring the situation for any implications in the state.

"NYPD immediately stepped up its activity, I can tell you the FBI did and Homeland Security. It's really a full-court press at so many levels," said Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island).
