An 11-month-old child has been hospitalized with a head injury after being hit by a line drive foul ball during a professional baseball game in New Jersey.
The infant, Daniel Fonseca, was hit Wednesday night during a Sussex County Miners game at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, according to New Jersey state police.
Daniel was in his stroller when the foul ball hit him in the eye, state police said.
New Jersey state police Trooper Lawrence Peele says the child was conscious and alert when flown to University Hospital in Newark. He suffered a broken orbital bone.
"The baby was crying, the baby was conscious," said Shane White, a spokesman for Skylands Stadium. "The baby had immediate care from the EMTs, the paramedics, the state police."
He added that families are safe at the stadium but should always remain alert.
"It doesn't happen very often," said White. "Our staff makes everybody very aware here that there are foul balls."

A hospital spokesman says the child was listed in stable condition Thursday morning.
The Miners are in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, an independent league. They won the Wednesday game against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of Quebec, 4-2.
