Former L.I. Town Supervisor Acquitted of DWI charges

A Long Island jury has acquitted former Southampton town supervisor Linda Kabot of drunk driving charges, according to a spokesman for the Suffolk county DA.

The jury in Riverhead town court deliberated less than an hour.  Kabot, 43 had been arrested on Main Street in West Hampton Beach in September, 2009.  She lost her bid for re-election two months later.

During the week long trial, Kabot's attorney had reportedly argued police conspired to arrest the then Supervisor to embarrass her during her campaign.

A video of the arrest, showing Kabot speaking with the arresting officers, became evidence at the trial.

Kabot was convicted of running a stop sign and will be required to pay a fine for that.
