Flash Flood Warnings, Watches in Effect for Parts of Tri-State

Flash flood watches and warnings have been issued for parts of the tri-state as a band of thunderstorms that's expected to dump up to 2 inches of rain moves over the area.

Flash flood warnings have been issued for New York City and parts of New Jersey, and watches are in effect for other parts of the tri-state; they can be tracked here.

If flooding occurs, it will mainly be concentrated to small rivers, streams and poor drainage areas on local roads and underpasses.

The rain will be heavy through the evening with a few isolated thunderstorms, meteorologists say. Winds gusts of up to 30 to 35 mph are possible.

The storm will wind down overnight, ending from west to east. Some parts of Long Island may see lingering showers through 8 a.m. Saturday.

The weekend should be sunny and clear, with Saturday reaching a high of 75 degrees and Sunday seeing 70.
