Food Trucks Raise Money for Frites ‘N' Meats

Eat at a food truck today, and you may help pay the hospital bills for two injured owners of the Frites ‘N’ Meats truck.

Members of the NYC Food Truck Association have agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to the owners of the Frites ‘N’ Meats truck, which suffered a propane-fueled explosion in a collision with another vehicle on Monday.

According to the Frites ‘N’ Meats blog, fellow Food Truckers such as Schnitzel & Things, Mexicue, Rickshaw & others have offered to donate up to ten percent of Friday's sales to help rebuild the truck.

A friend has opened up a Pay pal account and an email address at fritesnmeatsdonations@yahoo.com to accept donations. Any additional money raised by the fundraising effort will be donated to local charities and schools.

The burger truck exploded when a propane tank used for cooking caught fire in the collision. Although police and firefighters rushed to the scene, the truck was badly charred and the two owners, Mohamed and Hiassam Beydoun, were taken to the hospital for serious injuries.

The brothers hope to get back on the streets soon with the community’s support. “Fellow NYC Food Truckers and Fans are just awesome. Thx 4 all ur support. Can't wait 2 c u on the streets again,” tweeted the team this afternoon.

In a blog posting, Hiassam wrote that Mohammed is still in the hospital recovering from serious burns and scrapes. The brothers plan to re-open the food truck soon, but can’t say when until Mohamed gets out of the hospital.
