Low of 10 Degrees Forecast for Midtown Tonight Amid High Winds

Another round of wintry weather is bringing light snow, frigid temperatures and face-numbing winds to the region.

The snow started coming down over parts of the Hudson Valley late Wednesday and continued falling through Thursday morning, leaving a slippery coating of up to 2 inches of some roads and walkways. Gusty snow showers pushed through parts of central New Jersey and the five boroughs, but had no measurable impact on road travel or mass transit through the morning commute.

Temperatures fell to the high 20s in midtown after an above-freezing start to the day Thursday, and are expected to plummet rapidly overnight as an arctic front moves over the region. Wind chills in the single digits with gusts of up to 30 mph accompanied the cold front, numbing the faces of New Yorkers -- and temperatures aren't expected to climb above freezing before the weekend.

Residents in the upper Hudson Valley should expect subzero temperatures Thursday night, while the mercury in midtown will dip as low as 10 degrees, Storm Team 4 says. Wind chills will make it feel like 20 degrees below zero in some spots before the gusts ease up around dawn Friday.

No significant precipitation is expected Friday or Saturday. Alternate side parking regulations have been suspended through Saturday to facilitate snow removal, which marks two straight weeks the rules have been suspended in the city because of weather.

The chance for a bigger winter storm returns Sunday evening, Storm Team 4 says. Light snow is expected to begin arriving Sunday morning and become steadier as the day wears on.

Storm Team 4 expects a steady snow Monday before the system pulls east out into the Atlantic Ocean. Current models don't indicate the storm will be particularly strong, Storm Team 4 says, but the system may carry enough moisture to dump a few inches on the five boroughs Monday.

Lingering flurries are expected Tuesday with temperatures at the freezing mark.
