More than a dozen people were injured in a fire at a courthouse building in Brooklyn, the FDNY says.
Thirteen people, four fighters and nine NYC correction officers, suffered minor injuries as a result of the blaze.
Firefighters rushed to Brooklyn Criminal Court on Schermerhorn Street just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to see fire blowing out of a window, the FDNY said.
The fire, which started in the storage room on the sixth floor of the 10-story building, forced everybody inside the criminal court building to evacuate, emergency crews said. They were transferred to nearby jails.
There were several inmates inside holding cells when the fire broke out, firefighters said. Correction officers worked to get them out safely.
Firefighters said the heavy smoke condition made their job at putting out the fire even tougher.
“When the guys got up to the sixth floor they had to open the door and fight their way down the hallway just to get to the fire room,” FDNY Deputy Chief Vinny Mandala said.

There is still no word on what might have sparked the blaze.
