Firefighters Battle Fire at Queens Dry Cleaners

Firefighters battled a a stubborn fire Sunday that demolished a dry cleaners shop in Queens.

The fire started at about 3:30 p.m. at DDK ProCleaners at the corner of 13th Street and 40th Avenue in Long Island City, authorities said. It was under control nearly six hours later.

More than 200 firefighters struggled to contain the blaze. However, it has spread to an adjacent furniture store.

The fire gutted the dry cleaners and damaged the furniture store. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said.

The city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene advised residents who have health problems and live in the vicinity to close windows and avoid outdoor activity because of the smoke billowing from the scene.
