Police say they've arrested a former New Jersey firefighter after finding a cache of guns and emergency response equipment in his car.

Authorities tell The Asbury Park Press they pulled over 33-year-old Robert Buckalew in Middletown around 2 p.m. Monday after someone reported he was trying to buy drugs.

Police say they found cocaine, a police radio, two handguns and throwing knives in his car. They say he also had badges for the Port Monmouth Fire Department, Middletown EMT and Middletown police.

The Middletown man was a member of the Port Monmouth Fire Department until he was dismissed in 2006. Police say he's not a member of the Middletown police force.

He's charged with drug and drug paraphernalia possession and weapons offenses.
