More Than 170 Firefighters Battling Smoky Brush Fire on Staten Island

More than 170 firefighters are battling a wind-whipped brush fire burning on Staten Island, the FDNY said Friday.

The blaze burning near Mill Road and Kissam Avenue in the Oakwood Beach section of the island is billowing black smoke that is causing smoky, hazy conditions that can been seen in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Thirty-nine fire units have responded to the fire, which has reached four alarms due to high winds, the FDNY said. No injuries have been reported.  The city's Office of Emergency Management says nearby residents should close their windows and traffic delays are expected.
