Firefighters Rescue Residents Trapped on Fire Escape During Bronx Blaze

Firefighters rescued several people trapped on a fire escape during a fire at an apartment building in the Bronx Tuesday morning, fire officials say.

The blaze broke out at an apartment complex on Honeywell Avenue in West Farms about 10:45 a.m., according to the FDNY.

Amateur video captured at the scene shows flames and smoke pouring from the fourth floor of the five-story building, with a couple of residents standing on the fire escape. A firefighter can be seen climbing up the fire escape to aid them.

A witness at the scene said the firefighters got the men to go back inside the window, and they were able to leave the building through the hallway.

Firefighters say that the blaze was brought under control within about 30 minutes. One resident was seriously hurt in the fire, and one firefighter had minor injuries.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been released.
