FedEx Worker Struck, Killed by Car in NJ

A 43-year-old FedEx worker was struck and killed by a car in New Jersey Friday morning, officials said.

William Convery III, of South Bound Brook, was hit on Fairview Avenue in the Colonia section of Woodbridge at around 9:30 a.m. Authorities say Convery was standing by the back of his FedEx truck when he was hit by a 2005 Dodge Caravan.

Convery had been about to make a delivery. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and is listed in critical condition. His identity has not been released.

According to witnesses, the minivan was heading west on Fairview Avenue when it struck the FedEx truck, pinning Convery between the two vehicles.

No charges have been filed against the driver, though an investigation is ongoing.

Convery's brother-in-law, Richard Urbaez, said Convery was a family man with three young children.

Ken Santos witnessed the aftermath of the accident, which left the FedEx truck halfway up his driveway.

"You have a man going out to do his job and to end his life that way, it's a really tragic situation," Santos said.
