One woman was killed after a fire broke out in the cluttered basement of a New Jersey rowhouse late Thursday, fire officials say.
Firefighters were called to the home on Fifth Street in Jersey City at about 10 p.m., and the blaze was knocked down by midnight.
The woman's body was found on the top floor of the single-family home, firefighter say. Three other people inside when the blaze broke out were able to escape the flames uninjured.
A firefighter twisted his ankle fighting the blaze and was treated at the scene.
