3 Dead in Fire at New Jersey Apartment Complex

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that killed three people and damaged at least four apartments in New Jersey.

The fire appears to have started in a second-floor apartment in the complex off Farm Road in Hillsborough on Monday night. The flames spread to the roof.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has not released the names of the victims, but other residents said they were all from the same family.

Authorities said the three people who died got trapped in their second-floor apartment.

Neighbors said they were startled awake by fellow residents warning them of the fire.

He woke me up and told me there was a fire, he ran out and started banging on the doors to tell people to come out," said Carey Giles.

The Red Cross said it was assisting 12 people from five families displaced by the blaze.
