1 Dead, 1 Injured in Newburgh Fire

A father died and his daughter was seriously injured when a fire spread through their Newburgh home, officials said.

The blaze began at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, spreading across the first floor of the two-story home, the Newburgh Fire Department said.

According to authorities, the father was found on the second floor and pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, while his daughter jumped out of a second-floor window and was found unconscious on the sidewalk. She was hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center, but the extent of her injuries is unclear.

The fire took an hour to get under control and firefighters were at the seen until 6 a.m., officials said.
