A former Queens resident has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the choking death and dismemberment of his wife, whose parts were stuffed in a suitcase found by teenagers in a park almost a year later.
Edwin Fuentes was sentenced Wednesday after pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence in the 2007 death of his wife. His lawyer called it a tragedy for everybody affected by the case.
Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Fuentes admitted to putting his arm around is wife's neck and choking her, then later dismembering her body and putting some of the parts in a suitcase which was placed in Forest Park.
After her death, prosecutors say the former butcher reported his wife missing.
