Man Pleads Not Guilty in Death of Girlfriend, Child

A New Jersey man pleaded not guilty Thursday on charges that he stabbed his girlfriend to death and then smothered her 5-year-old daughter, who witnessed the killing.

Tammy Gaddy, 40, and her 3-year-old daughter, Natasia Gaddy, were found in a home in Englewood, N.J. Tuesday, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say the mother was stabbed to death by Michael Brady, her boyfriend of three years, during an argument. Prosecutors believe the little girl witnessed the stabbing and that Brady smothered her with a plastic bag before fleeing the home.

The toddler had no stab wounds, prosecutors said.

Authorities said the mother and daughter were killed Monday but their bodies weren't discovered until police went to check on them Tuesday.

Brady, 34, works as a school custodian at Leonia Middle School and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

A judge declined Thursday to reduce Brady's $2 million bail.
