Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres yesterday surprised Bronx mom Rozina Pijuan with a holiday gift set that she will likely never forget.
The giving bit was part of the Ellen show's “Dough-vember” -- where viewers get cash ad prizes throughout the month.
Pijuan had written in show and shared her story, explaining that she is a mother of two sons from the Bronx who has been struggling financial since she lost her job.
Ellen surprised Pijuan with a phone call at a South Street Seaport restaurant and then had her make her way to a correspondent who surprised her with a free yearlong Metrocard and a brand new GMC Terrain. Ellen also gave her 10,000 for gas, and Christmas gifts for her sons and to help pay off her debt so she can make a fresh start.
Rozina has gone back to school to help her chances of finding a job, but since she is not working the family is struggling. She walks herself and her sons to school everyday since they cannot afford the subway or a car. Rozina recently got her driver’s license in hopes she would one day be able to afford a car.
The show with Pijuan will air Wednesday at 4 p.m. on WNBC, Channel 4.
