Gas Main Break in New Jersey Shuts Down Port Terminal

A gas main break in New Jersey has shut down a cargo terminal in a busy port area and crews are working to turn off the gas, officials say.

The Port Authority says a water main break at Maher Terminals in Elizabeth hit a gas main Tuesday afternoon, breaking that main.

There were no hazardous materials in the containers at the terminal, but the fumes have forced it to close, says the Port Authority. Another building on the property, located on Corbin Street, was evacuated.

Trucks on the terminal were being held in place until the gas was turned off.

No one has been hurt.
