Authorities rescued two people who became trapped in an elevator that got stuck between the eighth and ninth floors of a nine-story apartment building in Greenwich Village Wednesday, authorities say.

Officials got a call about the elevator malfunction on West 11th Street shortly before 11:30 a.m.

The two people in the elevator were pulled out safely a short time later and taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. It's not clear if they live in the building.

The Department of Buildings is investigating.
