Thousands in NJ, NY Without Power

Thousands of customers in New York and New Jersey still have no power two days after a snowstorm.

In the Hudson Valley, power outages are lingering for more than 8,000 customers. Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. says it brought in extra repair crews to restore service to homes and businesses that lost power in the pre-Thanksgiving Day storm. Some areas were digging out from about a foot of snow.

The utility says some areas might not see power fully restored until the weekend.

Jersey Central Power & Light reports about 2,000 homes and businesses were without electricity Friday morning, mostly in Sussex, Morris and Monmouth counties. Rockland Electric has about 140 customers in the dark in Passaic County.

The storm brought a mix of precipitation, ranging from heavy wet flakes to sleet before tapering off or turning over to rain Wednesday night. But vast stretches of New Jersey, especially in the south, were relatively unscathed.

Montague, in Sussex County, had the highest snowfall total at 12½ inches.

At the height of the outages, more than 100,000 homes and businesses were powerless in the Empire and Garden states.
