Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Car on Foggy Long Island Road, Police Say

An elderly man was struck and killed on Long Island Monday night on a fog-covered roadway, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a woman driving a 2001 Ford Focus hit the pedestrian who was standing on the side of Mark Tree Road, just north of Linda Drive in Centereach, according to police.

87-year-old Dominick Geraci of Selden was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, who has not been charged, was not injured and remained on the scene, according to authorities.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and police say they continue to investigate.
