NY Health Officials Investigating Death of Girl, 7

Lily Love, of Eastchester, died Saturday

The sudden death of a 7-year-old Westchester County girl is under investigation, health officials said.

The Westchester County Department of Health said Monday it was "looking into" the death of Lilly Love, a second-grader at Greenvale School who died Saturday.

The department said it couldn't release any other information on the cause of the Eastchester girl's death or of her pre-existing conditions because of health privacy laws.

It was not clear if the girl's death was linked to an episode at school, home or somewhere else.

The school district said that classes were going on as scheduled on Monday and that counseling would be available to all students and their families.

The district informed parents that Love died in a letter.

"It's just really devastating any time there's a loss of any child anywhere," said Sue Handel.

Others called on the district to do tests to make sure the school was safe. Another student died four years ago of the flu.

"It is a concern for me," said Gina Franciamore.

She added, "testing should be done and we should be aware of all the test results then and now."

Love's family said they were grateful for the support of the community.

According to Love's obituary, she was born on Aug. 15, 2008, and enjoyed art, soccer, swimming and tennis. She is survived by her parents, big sister, grandparents, uncles and cousins.

"Lily touched all those she encountered with her ever present smile and laugh," the obituary said. "She was joy itself and taught us all to be kinder, better and more loving people."

Funeral services will be held for the girl on Wednesday morning at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale.
