An off-duty Department of Correction officer is being questioned after allegedly shooting his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in the chest after a confrontation Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn.

The officer and his girlfriend, also a DOC officer, were in a car being followed by the victim at about 1 p.m. when some kind of dispute erupted and shots were fired near Utica Avenue and Clarendon Road.

The ex-boyfriend, 31, was shot twice in the chest and is in critical condition at Kings County Hospital.

Sources tell NBC 4 New York that the shooter has told detectives he thought the victim had a gun. So far police have not found one.
