Severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings were in effect for parts of New York and New Jersey early Wednesday, but the nasty weather quickly made way for a pleasant and mostly sunny day.
Heavy rain and at-times damaging winds swept across the tri-state in the morning, downing trees and power lines in areas, causing flash flooding and stirring sleeping residents.
The worst of the weather hit parts of northeastern New Jersey, Storm Team 4 says, with several towns in Bergen County reporting flash flooding.
Another band of rain swept through parts of the area later in the morning, but skies cleared rapidly after it rolled through. The rest of the day was expected to be mostly sunny and pleasant, with a few isolated showers or thunderstorms north of New York City later in the afternoon.
The rest of the week will be sunny and warm, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid-60s, according to Storm Team 4.
Independence Day will be a close call, Storm Team 4 says. Conditions are expected to be mostly sunny and dry, but there is a chance for a storm towards the south of the region.
