EMT Fatally Slashed at Brooklyn Party

A man who recently joined the ranks of the city's emergency medical technicians died after being fatally slashed outside a house party.

Police responding to a call found 20-year-old Kelvin Buggs outside 2866 Fulton St. in Brooklyn just after 3 a.m. Saturday. He had been slashed in the neck and shoulder. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Relatives said Buggs had become an EMT in October and also worked a second job to support his girlfriend and 2-year-old daughter. He was off-duty at the time of the incident.

"He was a hero. That's the only word for him," his uncle Charles Potts told the New York Post.

FDNY sources told the the Post that Buggs was slashed after trying to break up a fight that had started inside the party.
