Updated 12:35 PM EDT, Mon, Jan 12, 2009

Two people were killed in a multiple car accidnet involving a dump truck and a tractor-trailer.

State police said two people have died in a seven-vehicle accident along Route 78 in Union Township.

The accident happened about 11:15 a.m. in the eastbound express lanes of the highway near Exit 49A.

State Police spokesman Stephen Jones said a dump truck traveling in the westbound express lanes crossed into the eastbound express lanes and turned over, causing a chain reaction.

Chopper 4 footage showed dirt from the overturned dump truck covering several lanes along the highway.

Also involved in the accident were jackknife tractor-trailer and six other vehicles. Jones said the people killed were both in passenger vehicles.

Jones said the dump truck driver was taken to University Hospital in Newark. It was unclear what the extent of the driver's injuries are, or whether people are also injured.

It wasn't the accident, but the awful rubbernecking. once we got by the accident scene, the traffic broke up. On the way back the same thing happened. Why can't people mind their own business and keep moving. I'm glad I was picking up at the airport and NOT trying to catch a flight!
