Drugstore Robber Threatens Workers With Needles, Says He Has HIV: NYPD

A Duane Reade drugstore robber in midtown threatened employees with needles and said he had HIV when they caught him stealing merchandise, police say.

The suspect walked into the Duane Reade store at 949 Third Ave. the afternoon of Monday, March 23 and stuffed about $180 worth of items from store shelves into his jacket pocket, according to police.

When workers confronted him, the suspect showed hypodermic needles from his pocket and said he had HIV, police said. He then ran away.

No one was hurt.

The suspect is described as about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a stocky build, and in his early to mid 30s.
