Drunken Man Busted Driving With Tot in Tow: Cops

Faces felony charge under Leandra's Law

A 30-year-old Queens man has been arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child in the car -- a felony charge under Leandra's Law, police said.

Cops said Daniel Gonzalez was under the influence while driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer in East Garden City at about 9:30 p.m. Friday. He had a 2-year-old passenger in the car with him, but it wasn't immediately clear if the two were related. The little boy was released to his mother.

Gonzalez was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 15 years old under Leandra's Law, which was enacted last December after an 11-year-old girl was killed by a drunk driver on her way to a sleepover.

Gonzalez was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
