A 27-year-old man is under arrest after he drove the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway while intoxicated, police said.

The man pulled into a rest area on the eastbound side of the LIE near Dix Hills; when he exited, he was driving the other way, Suffolk County police said. He then lost control of his vehicle, crashed into some trees and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving in the wrong direction, according to police. He wasn't injured.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the man, a resident of Amityville, had a lawyer.
