Alleged Drunk Drivers Crash Head-on in Westchester: Police

Two alleged drunk drivers crashed in a violent head-on collision that injured five people in Westchester, authorities say.

It happened shortly before midnight Thursday in Yorktown, when 19-year-old Adam Kaczor made an improper left turn near Route 35 and Broad Street and hit 35-year-old Dennis Marralheiro's vehicle, police said.

The impact of the head-on crash was so forceful that one of the cars caught fire.

There were three passengers in Kaczor's car, police said. Both drivers and the passengers were taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

While being treated for their injuries, Kaczor and Marralheiro were issued tickets to appear in court Jan. 23. Kaczor faces a misdemeanor DWI charge, but Marralheiro's charge was upgraded to a felony because of a prior DWI conviction, police said.

No one answered the door at either of their homes Friday.
