A 14-year-old who was riding his skateboard in a mall parking lot was struck by a suspected drunk driver and became trapped under the man's van, police say.
The teen suffered head and internal injuries and was listed in serious condition, Nassau County police said.
He was skateboarding in the parking lot of a strip mall on Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead when the Dodge Caravan drove over him, police said.
The teen was trapped underneath the van and had to be extricated, police said.
Luis De Jesus, 42, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, vehicular assault, aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving without a license, among other charges.
It wasn't clear whether De Jesus had an attorney.
