Driver Loses Control of Car, Plunges Into Water on Long Island: Police

A driver was seriously injured Thursday after losing control of their car and plunging into the water on Long Island, police said.

The driver was pulled to safety by rescue crews after driving off a boat ramp at the Port Jefferson Marina around 5:30 p.m., according to authorities.

A witness called for help and emergency crews arrived at the scene a short time later, police said.

Crews jumped into action and pulled the driver out of the water, officials said.

Video from the scene shows the car nearly submerged as crews work to rescue the man.

The driver was taken to an area hospital, where the driver is recovering from their injuries.
