Driver Killed After Crashing Into MTA Bus in Queens, 2 Hurt: FDNY

A driver died and two people were hurt when a car slammed into an MTA bus just outside the St. John's University campus in the Jamaica section of Queens Monday evening, officials say.

The car somehow ended up on the wrong side of the median on Union Turnpike at 175th Street and crashed head-on into a Q46 bus at about 8:30 p.m., according to fire officials

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two injured victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, according to the FDNY. They were listed in serious but stable condition. 

The accident happened just outside the gates of St. John's as students were gathered to watch a Christmas tree lighting in a ceremony that's celebrated with fireworks.  

The driver has not been identified.
