A Long Island driver is under arrest after police said he hit and killed a pedestrian and drove off.

Suffolk County police say the victim, Santos Amaya, was walking across Islip Avenue in Brentwood around 10 p.m. Saturday when a car ran him down and then took off.

The 31-year-old Amaya was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Meanwhile, police found the damaged car and arrested the driver a few hours later.

The 47-year-old driver from Brentwood was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

No telephone number for him could be found, and it's not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer
