Gunman Dead After Being Run Over in Bronx

Police say the driver was traveling on University Avenue near West 176th Street in Morris Heights at around 3:30 a.m.

Police say a man who fired at a minivan in the Bronx was later hit by the vehicle and killed.
 
The deadly confrontation happened at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday on University Avenue and West 176th Street in Morris Heights.
 
Police say a romantic rivalry may have triggered the violence.
 
They say 43-year-old Edward Jenkins saw his former girlfriend in the minivan with another man and began firing a gun.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Mejia, took off but later encountered the gunman and ran him down.

Jenkins was pronounced dead at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.

Mejia was charged with murder, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while ability impaired. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
