Driver Stopped at Drawbridge Dies in Crash

A driver stopped at a drawbridge crossing on Long Island was killed when his vehicle was crushed between a pickup truck that slammed him from behind and a larger truck stopped ahead of him.

New York state police say the accident claimed the life of 45-year-old Steven Evola of Selden.

It closed the Loop Parkway on the south shore of Long Island for about six hours Friday.

Authorities say Evola was stopped on the westbound side of the drawbridge when he was rear ended at about 7:10 a.m. The force of the impact pushed Evola's vehicle into the bigger truck.

Evola was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup driver was ticketed for following too closely and unsafe speed.
