Flying Tire Kills Driver in Westchester

A tire flew off a tractor-trailer on I-95 this afternoon, smashing through the windshield of a passing vehicle and killing the driver.

The tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on I-95 when the tire came off the truck and flew across the median into the northbound lanes. That's when it hit the northbound car.

The driver, identified as 62-year-old Adele Mancuso, of Larchmont, was killed. Mancuso's mother, 84-year-old Constance Casalina was injured. Casalina is listed in stable condition at a Connecticut hospital.

All lanes were blocked near Exit 22 for the accident investigation, causing heavy delays during Tuesday's evening rush.

Police are looking for a witness who they say flagged down the tractor-trailer on the Cross Westchester Expressway and spoke to the driver.

The investigation is ongoing.
