A Long Island dad has been arrested and accused of leaving his baby and 5-year-old alone in a cold car while he went shopping, police said.

The father allegedly left his sons, one of whom is 5 months old, in the 1999 Mazda for at least 15 minutes in a poorly lit Patchogue Village parking lot Monday evening, authorities said.

Suffolk County police said the temperature was about 25 degrees at the time.

He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

A neighbor who was with him at his arraignment Tuesday said "it was not his intent to harm the kids."

His wife said he is a "good dad."
