DNA Match Leads to Arrest in Harlem Rapes

"Yeah, that does look like me," suspect allegedly told cops

A Harlem man has been arrested in connection with a string of rapes in Harlem and Washington Heights after DNA evidence matched him to evidence found in all four assaults, police said today.

Vincent Heyward, 21, surrendered to police outside of his apartment on Edgecombe Ave. in Hamilton Heights, officials said. The search ended "an intensive manhunt," according to NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne.

Heyward's DNA was linked to physical evidence from all four rapes, which occurred between Aug. 1 and Sept. 7 in Sugar Hill, Hamilton and Washington Heights, Browne said. The victims ranged in age from 23 to 69.

Police had been circulating a sketch of Heyward, and reportedly when they presented him with the drawing, he said "Yeah, that does look a lot like me," sources told the New York Post.
