DEA: Newark Raid Yields Heroin, Crack, 6 Arrests

Drug enforcement agents broke up a violent drug distribution network and arrested six reputed gang members, officials said Thursday.

The men were part of a group accused of selling drugs and guns in Irvington, East Orange and Newark, authorities said.

Arrested Thursday were Chris McClean, 34, of Atlantic City; Amare Terrell, 35, of Orange; Eric Sims, 34, of Newark; Jaquel Moore, 23, of Irvington; and Shanta Brock, 24, of Pleasantville. Jason Franklin, 25, of Irvington, was arrested Wednesday.

DEA spokesman Douglas Collier said two other suspects still are being sought in connection with the ring.

Collier added that five kilograms of heroin, a quarter kilo of crack cocaine and five semiautomatic handguns were seized during the arrests.
