Cuomo: NY Police to Crack Down on Impaired Driving

Police across New York state will be stepping up their enforcement over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that State Police and local authorities will increase patrols to crack down on impaired and distracted drivers.

The campaign will also involve sobriety checkpoints.

The state has also suspended most highway and bridge work for the weekend to prevent traffic congestion during one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.

Last year police arrested more than 235 people for driving while intoxicated and issued more than 12,000 tickets during Memorial Day weekend.
