Cruel: Bronx HS Staff Accused of Swiping $90k in Bake Sale Funds

Staffers at a Bronx high school swiped more than $90,000 raised through student bake and candy sales, a New York state report found.

The audit by Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said staffers at John F. Kennedy High School stole or misused the funds between July 2007 and June 2009.

The money went into a general school fund used to pay for student activities such as proms and trips.

DiNapoli said school officials said they reimbursed the account for the $7,000 used for the teachers' parties, but provided no evidence. The Department of Education is investigating how the rest of the money disappeared.

The principal resigned in May after the funds were found missing. He referred questions to the Department of Education.
