Man Diagnosed With Malaria Amid Ebola Fears in New Jersey

Hazardous materials crews responded to a New Jersey condominium complex after a person later diagnosed with malaria sparked Ebola fears, NBC 10 in Philadelphia reports.

State and local police responded overnight Tuesday into Wednesday to what they called a hazmat situation at a Wawa on Squankum Road and East Kennedy Boulevard in Lakewood, reports NBC 10.

The man, who was extremely ill and vomiting, was taken to Monmouth Medical Center. After a series of tests, the man was diagnosed with malaria.

The man had recently returned from Nigeria, which was not one of the three countries stricken with Ebola during an outbreak of 2014.
