Cornell Frat Leader Accused of Sex Assault: Police

A Cornell University student from New York City has been charged in connection with a reported sexual assault at a fraternity house.

Wolfgang Ballinger, 21, president of the Psi Upsilon fraternity, of the faces felony charges of attempted rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse. He was arraigned Thursday evening in Ithaca City Court and sent to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

A female student reported being assaulted at about 2 a.m. last Saturday, police said.

Ballinger turned himself in to Cornell police on Thursday. There was no  had retained a lawyer who could comment on the case.

Following the incident, the fraternity Psi Upsilon was placed on "interim suspension," meaning the organization mys cease activities, but can continue the operation of its residence.
